DESCRIPTION: Michigan operates two homes for veterans. One is located in Grand Rapids and the other in Marquette. First established to care for veterans of the Civil War, they serve wartime veterans and, on a space available basis, spouses and parents. Domiciliary care (assisted living) and nursing care includes physician, nursing, pharmacy, social work, nutrition and related services. There are two units for persons with Alzheimer's disease at Grand Rapids and one at Marquette. Eligible persons not able to meet the full charges for care are assessed an amount based on their ability to pay. A seven member Board of Managers governs the homes.
