| DESCRIPTION: |
The Department of State Police contains the State Emergency Response Commission required by the Federal Superfund Amendment Reauthorization Act of 1986. The commission has responsibility to oversee the development of emergency response plans for sites that have a specified quantity of an extremely hazardous substance. The Federal law also requires local emergency response committees that are responsible for the development of the plans.
The Department is also responsible for administering the Michigan Hazardous Materials Transportation Act. Local units of government are assisted in planning and training and given grants for response to incidents. |
