 ELDER PRESCRIPTION INSURANCE

LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY: Department of Community Health Appropriations Act, Section 1965.

DESCRIPTION: Michigan currently provides a prescription insurance program for senior citizens whose income is less that 200% of the poverty level through Area Agencies on Aging (See Pharmaceutical Program for Seniors). The Department of Community Health appropriations act for 2000-2001 authorized funds for this new program. Implementation of the Elder Prescription Program will begin with the next fiscal year on October 1, 2001.
