LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY: M.C.L. 333.5101-5133, 333.5201-5269, 333.5901-5955; 1978 PA 368, Parts 51, 52, 59 and 59A.

DESCRIPTION: Various programs at the state and local levels have been initiated for the identification, prevention, tracking and treatment of HIV/AIDS infections, since its first identification in 1981. Major components include: counseling, testing and referral; education and research; risk reduction; and, care networks.

DISTRIBUTION:
Educational component is allocated on basis of competitive bids. The balance is distributed to local health departments by formula.
