LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY: M.C.L. 333.2401-2498; 1978 PA 368, Part 24

DESCRIPTION: The Public Health Code, Act 368 of 1978 provides for a system of local public health departments on a county or multi-county basis. It also permits the City of Detroit to operate a health department. Law charges them with responsibility to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote the public health. Minimum specific functions required are: immunization; infectious disease control; sexually transmitted disease control; hearing and vision screening for children, food protection, drinking water monitoring of both public and private systems; and, on-site sewage management.
