DESCRIPTION: The state monitors municipal and non-public water systems that serve more than 25 persons, oversees the primary Federal Environmental Protection Agency program that sets forth minimum standards for safe drinking water for non-community water supplies, provides for laboratory services; regulates on-site sewage disposal; and, monitors the effects of large-scale irrigation systems on domestic water wells. It also: regulates the disposal of medical waste materials; reviews water and wastewater plans for manufactured home developments; licenses and inspects dry cleaning establishments; and, approves the design for and licenses campgrounds and public swimming pools. Local Health Departments assist in some of these functions.
