Our presentations will provide a relatively high level view of the budgeting process in Michigan. Because of our backgrounds, and programs yet to come, our emphasis will include material on both the executive and legislative roles in the process. There will be three more sessions in this series, put on by staff of the House Fiscal Agency. They will take you into the nuts and bolts of the process and show you the detailed schedule, the various reports and analyses that go into producing the budget and the appropriation bills. What we will be talking about here this morning will in no way duplicate those sessions, so you will want to attend them as well.

I also want to point out the packets that are available at the end of the session. They contain a number of publications relevant to taxation and expenditure in Michigan that you can refer to over the course of the coming year.
